About Indian 1000 Guineas
Indian horse racing is influenced by British traditions and the five Indian Classics are a result of the same. The Indian 1000 Guineas is the first-ever Indian Classic which began almost 150 years after its British equivalent. The first iteration of the race was hosted by the Royal Western Turf Club in Mumbai on January 1, 1943.
Princess Beautiful, a filly ridden by jockey E Britt won the first edition of the Indian 1000 Guineas. The same year, RWTC hosted the first-ever Indian Derby and the Indian 2000 Guineas. Princess Beautiful was also the winner of the Indian Derby 1943 with the same jockey E Britt. Since the 7th edition of the race, the Indian 1000 Guineas has been traditionally held in December.
