To be a player in the Indian Cricket Team brings with it much pride and over the years, the players have done more than just bring pride to their country. Here are five of the best Indian cricketers from back in the 90s, and why they deserve to be classed as such.
Sachin Tendulkar
Tendulkar has been nicknamed the God of Cricket, but he is more than just a batsman for the team. In fact, he is one of the most perfect batsmen that you will ever find. With over one-hundred international centuries, he still remains one of the best, with that record being hard to bear. A stalwart of the game, he is known worldwide for his skill and achievements, and is an unforgettable player from the 90s.
Rahul Dravid
There isn’t a lot that Dravid did that disappointed, as his batting was a wonder for all to see. Nicknamed ‘the wall’ of cricket in India, he is known for helping the team be able to recover in some drastic game situations, and being a bit of a hero back in the 90s to save the match. For all that he has done for Indian cricket, he is still very much loved and admired by cricket fans today, and he is known for being a very humble man.
Sourav Ganguly
Known for his presence on the pitch, and being nicknamed as ‘the dada’ of cricket, Ganguly definitely deserves a place on this list. There were a number of controversies that he got pulled into back in the day, but still remains one of the most successful captains of Indian cricket. When he was captain, India won nearly half of their test matches that were played overseas, cementing him as the most successful Test captain overseas in India. Popular with his peers, he also won a number of man-of-the-match awards.
Anil Kumble
Kumble made his first Test match debut in 1990, and quickly became a success with his bowling that very few countrymen have been able to live up to since. He is nicknamed ‘Jumbo’ and one of his biggest achievements was 35 five-wicket-hauls, as well as 8 ten-wicket-hauls; the third highest.
V. S Laxman
For Test Indian cricket, you can’t forget to mention V. V. S Laxman. In fact, it has been hard to find someone that compares ever since his performances in the 90s. He is a very patient player and is classed as a bit of a rare gem in the cricketing world. Alongside Rahul Dravid, he created a record in Test cricket for 376 runs, and is one of the only cricketers from India to score 1000 runs, all with an average of over 100.
